"I am on the Board of TMC, to support our team and support Dressage in Kern County. Dressage is the foundation of all riding disciplines, so the need to have an active Dressage community is imperative. I have had exposure to all activities within CDS throughout the years. I can give our team help and advice, when needed. Happy Riding!" - Betsy Shelton
Kaitlyn Kirkland is the current secretary of the Chapter. Her love of horses started young and has continued to be a source of joy and comfort for her well into adulthood. Despite growing up as a self proclaimed "desert rat" here in Kern County, Kaitlyn enjoys her time in the barn watching and learning from other riders and helping the Chapter to modernize when and where they can. As a mother to three little girls, Kaitlyn is no stranger to managing chaos. Prior to becoming a mother, she worked at two separate colleges as an instructional assistant and departmental tutor. With degrees in History and Political Science, her passions involve supporting her community at large and working to make changes in the system so that every single person can benefit. With dedicating her time to the Chapter, Kaitlyn hopes to forge new relationships with other equestrian enthusiasts in the area and bring more youth into the sport.
Dianne Kennedy serves as the Chapter Treasurer. An avid horsewoman since the age of five, she has explored nearly every equestrian discipline, though today she focuses on jumpers, eventing, and mounted archery. While dressage remains her most challenging phase of three-day eventing, she values it as the foundation of all horsemanship, fostering harmony and balance between horse and rider. Beyond the barn, Dianne is a local attorney, military spouse, and mother of three. She feels a deep connection to the Tehachapi Mountains, and the wonderful community she has found here. Through her role, she hopes to help grow the Tehachapi Mountain Chapter of the California Dressage Society by creating quality local events, strengthening connections among equestrians, and welcoming new members into the sport.
